Administrative data

Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail; however, no GLP-study

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline available
Deviations:
not applicable
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The particle size distribution is analysed by laser scattering analysis. Laser light interacts with the particles causing diffraction, refraction and absorption, thus producing a characteristic pattern of scattered light. If the particle size is significantly higher than the wavelength of the laser light predominantly diffraction patterns are produced. The principles of measurement are based on the Mie scattering theory.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of distribution:
other: laser diffraction
