Description of key information

Toxicity of phosphoric acid, potassium salt (2:3), dihydrate to aquatic microorganisms is unlikely

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Phosphoric acid, potassium salt (2:3), dihydrate is a simple, highly soluble inorganic salt that dissociates immediately in aquatic solutions. The main products of the dissociation of this substance are PO4-3and K+ions. In accordance with OECD Guideline No. 209, Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test (carbon and ammonium oxidation) (2010) both potassium and phosphate are basic constituents of the synthetic sewage feed (in the form of dipotassium hydrogen phosphate, K2HPO4) used as medium for bacterial growth. Therefore, this salt is not expected to cause any adverse effect on aquatic microorganisms’ activity and testing for this endpoint is not deemed necessary.
