Description of key information

The acute toxicity (LC50/EC50) of tetraammineplatinum(II) diacetate to aquatic species ranges from 20 mg/L to > 100 mg/L (9.75 mg Pt/L to >46.95 mg Pt/L) for all trophic levels (Migchielsen, 2005; 2006a; 2006b).

For aquatic organisms, the lowest toxicological value of 9.75 mg Pt/L (20 mg/L, 48-hr EC50 in freshwater Daphnia magna) has been taken forward for PNEC derivation. The 30-min EC50 of 46.95 mg Pt/L (100 mg/L, activated sludge respiration test) (Desmares-Koopmans, 2006) has been utilised for the derivation of a PNEC for microorganisms in sewage treatment plants.

The PNEC value for each environmental compartment has been derived on the basis of platinum metal.
