Description of key information

The substance Esterification products of Guerbet alcohols, C24-26, branched and cyclic with benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride was not toxic under test conditions in the range of water solubility towards aquatic invertebrates. And based on the results for analogue substance, toxicity in the range of water solubility is not expected on other aquatic organisms, neither for acute, nor for chronic toxicity.

Supporting the findings for the substance Esterification products of Guerbet alcohols, C24-26, branched and cyclic with benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride, the analogue substance 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters does not produce acute or chronic aquatic toxicity in fish, invertebrates, and algae. The absence of toxicity demonstrated by 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters is, at least in part, due to its low water solubility, resulting in low exposure potential, as well as the ability of organisms to metabolize 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters at a rate that prevents a critical body burden from being reached. The data for 1,2,4-Benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters show that it is not toxic at its maximally attainable water solubility level, which varies dependent on the conditions of study.

Since the substance Esterification products of Guerbet alcohols, C24-26, branched and cyclic with benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride and the analogue substance do not cause acute or chronic aquatic toxic effects at the limits of water solubility, it is not possible to derive NOEC or PNEC values needed for quantitative risk assessment. However, it is possible to qualitatively conclude based on low solubility and the results of acute and chronic aquatic toxicity tests that they do not pose an unacceptable risk to the aquatic compartment.
