Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN N.4
Version / remarks:
According to the ECHA Guidance on information requirelents and chemical safety assessment, chapter R.7.1.12, the UN Test N.4 is preferable to generate the information for this endpoint.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Batch TROD7BB06
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
>= 220 °C
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

Test 1

An exothermic effect of the test item by self-heating was observed. During this effect the test item reached a temperature of 220°C. According to the guideline, the test is positive when the sample temperature exceeds the oven temperature by 60°C during the 24 hour testing time. Based on this, the result is considered positive and Test 2 was performed.

After the experiment, the consistency of the sample was unchanged.

Test 2

A negative result was obtained. No spontaneous ignition occurred and no exothermic effect of the test item was observed. Based on this negative result, Test 3 was performed. After the experiment, the consistency of the sample was unchanged.

Test 3

A negative result was obtained. No spontaneous ignition occurred and no exothermic effect of the test item was observed. Based on this negative result, no further testing was required.

After the experiment, the consistency of the sample was unchanged.

Conclusions:
Self-heating of Acetic acid, oxo-, sodium salt, reaction products with ethanolamine and phenol, sodium hydroxide and ferric chloride was determined in accordance with UN Test N.4 “Test Method for Self-heating Substances”.
The test item is considered a self-heating substance when tested in a 100 mm sample cube at 140°C, but did not slef ignite up to 220°C.
Executive summary:

Self-heating of Acetic acid, oxo-, sodium salt, reaction products with ethanolamine and phenol, sodium hydroxide and ferric chloride was determined in accordance with UN Test N.4 “Test Method for Self-heating Substances”.

The test item is considered a self-heating substance when tested in a 100 mm sample cube at 140°C.
