First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

- Following inhalation:

Remove casualty from exposure ensuring one's own safety whilst doing so.

- Following skin contact:

Wash immediately with plenty of soap and water.

- Following eye contact:

Flush the eye immediately with water. If discomfort persists, obtain medical attention.

- Following ingestion:

If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Never administer anything by mouth if a casualty is losing consciousness, is unconscious or is convulsing. Wash out mouth with water. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects:

- Skin contact: None known.

- Eye contact: There may be irritation and redness.

- Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. The product may enter the lungs due to its low viscosity and lead to rapid development of very serious inhalation pulmonary lesions.  Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

- Inhalation: Absorption through the lungs can occur causing symptoms similar to those of ingestion.

Delayed / immediate effects: Immediate effects can be expected after short-term exposure.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media:

Water spray. Carbon dioxide. Alcohol resistant foam. Dry chemical powder. Use water spray to cool containers.

- Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

In combustion emits toxic fumes.

- Advice for fire fighter: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Wear protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

- Engineering measures: Ensure there is sufficient ventilation of the area.

- Respiratory protection: Use a properly fitted, air-purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels and the hazards of the product.

- Hand protection: Impermeable gloves.

- Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields.

- Skin protection: Impermeable protective clothing.

- Protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Turn leaking containers leakside up to prevent the escape of liquid.

- Environmental precautions:

Do not discharge into drains or rivers. Contain the spillage using bunding

- Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Absorb into dry earth or sand. Transfer to a closable, labelled salvage container for disposal by an appropriate method.

Handling and storage

- Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure there is sufficient ventilation of the area. Avoid the formation or spread of mists in the air.

- Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Keep container tightly closed. Store in a cool, well ventilated area.

- Suitable packaging: Must only be kept in original packagin
