Executive summary:

The study evaluated the biodegradability of HES 10108 by microorganisms and the study was conducted according to OECD Guidelines 301C and Method for Testing the Biodegradability of Chemical Substances by Microrganisms stipulated in the Testing Methods for New Chemical Substances, Japan and in accordance with the Principles of GLP. The conditions of incubation were-

Concentration of test item - 100 mg/l

Concentration of activated sludge - 30 mg/l (as concentration of suspended solids)

Volume of test solution - 300 ml

Incubation temperature - 25 ± 1 °C

Incubation duration - 28 days (under dark condition)

Biodegradation was measured by estimating the BOD and analytically by measuring the concentration of the test item using validated HPLC methods.

Under the conditions of the study, the average percentage biodegradation by BOD and that of the test item analytically were 2% and 0%, respectively. The test item was not readily biodegradable under the test conditions
