Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Eye Contact:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Skin Contact:

Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Wear impermeable gloves. Wash immediately with plenty of water and soap. Pay particular attention to skin crevices, nail folds, etc. Do not reuse contaminated clothing without laundering. Do not reuse contaminated leatherware.

Ingestion:

If swallowed, call a physician immediately. Only induce vomiting at the instruction of a physician. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Inhalation:

Remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Apply artificial respiration if patient is not breathing. Obtain medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media:

The most effective fire extinguishing agent is AFFF Foam. Use dry chemical powder pressurized with nitrogen. Use sand or carbon dioxide as an alternative extinguishing media, however, reignition of material is likely.

SPECIAL HAZARDS ARISING FROM THE SUBSTANCE OR MIXTURE

Immediate action should be taken to confine the fire. If fire cannot be controlled with extinguishing agent, keep a safe distance, protect adjacent property and allow the product to burn until consumed. Human exposure should be prevented and nonessential personnel evacuated from the immediate area. Breathing vapours from this material or its combustion products should be avoided by using proper respiratory equipment.

ADVICE FOR FIREFIGHTERS

Protective Equipment:

Use approved air-supplied full face respirator.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Where exposure level is not known, wear approved, positive pressure, self-contained respirator. Where exposure level is known, wear approved respirator suitable for level of exposure. In addition to the protective clothing/equipment in Exposure Control Methods, wear rain suit.

Environmental Precautions:

None known

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Block off source of spill, extinguish fire with appropriate extinguishing agent. Caution--Reignition may occur. If fire cannot be controlled with extinguishing agent, keep a safe distance, protect adjacent property and allow product to burn until consumed. Remove sources of ignition. Do not contact spill with paper cloth or vermiculite as spontaneous ignition will occur. Cover spill with an inert absorbent clay (such as cat litter or similar material) and place in a sealable container, sized such that free air volume is minimized. Seal under inert gas.

Handling and storage

Precautionary Measures: Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Handle in atmosphere of inert gas such as nitrogen. Keep from contact with clothing and other combustible materials. Keep container closed. Use with adequate ventilation. Keep cylinder out of sun and away from heat. Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Avoid breathing vapor. Wash thoroughly after handling.

Special Handling Statements: Exposure to air and other oxidizing material must be avoided. This material is a strong reducing agent. May react with combustible substances creating fire or explosion hazard.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Store under an inert atmosphere - nitrogen or carbon dioxide. Keep contents under an inert atmosphere.

Exposure controls / personal protection

EXPOSURE CONTROLS

Engineering Measures:

Utilize a closed system process where feasible.

Where this material is not used in a closed system, good enclosure and local exhaust ventilation should be provided to control exposure.

Respiratory Protection:

For operations where inhalation exposure can occur, use an approved respirator recommended by an industrial hygienist after an evaluation of the operation. Where inhalation exposure cannot occur, no respiratory protection is required.

A full facepiece respirator also provides eye and face protection.

Eye protection:

Prevent eye and skin contact.

Provide eye wash fountain and safety shower in close proximity to points of potential exposure.

Wear eye/face protection such as chemical splash proof goggles or face shield.

Skin Protection:

Prevent contamination of skin or clothing when removing protective equipment.

Wear impermeable gloves and suitable protective clothing.

Hand protection:

Nitrile or fluorinated rubber gloves. Consider the porosity and elasticity data of the glove manufacturer and the specific conditons in the work place. Barrier creams may help to protect the exposed areas of the skin, they should however not be applied once exposure has occurred. Replace gloves immediately when torn or any change in appearance (dimension, colour, flexibility etc) is noticed.

The chemical resistance depends on the type of product and amount of product on the glove. Therefore gloves need to be changed when in contact with chemicals.

Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature, abrasion) the practical usage of a chemical protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Additional Advice:

Food, beverages, and tobacco products should not be carried, stored, or consumed where this material is in use. Before eating, drinking, or smoking, wash face and hands thoroughly with soap and water.

Stability and reactivity

Stability:

Stable

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Polymerization: will not occur

Conditions to avoid: exposure to the air or strong oxidizing agents.

Incompatible materials: air, oxidizing agents

Disposal considerations

Waste Treatment Methods

The Company encourages the recycle, recovery and reuse of materials, where permitted.  If disposal is necessary, The Company recommends that organic materials, especially when classified as hazardous waste, be disposed of by thermal treatment or incineration at approved facilities. All local and national regulations should be followed.
