Phototransformation in air

Half-life for reaction with photochemically-produced hydroxyl radicals: 95.4 hours.

Overall OH radicals Rate Constant = 3.49E-7 cm3/(molecule-day).

Hydrolysis

In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex VIII, Column 2, section 9.2.1.1, hydrolysis as a function of pH does not need to be determined as the substance can be regarded as readily biodegradable.

Biodegradation

The screening test inherent to the biodegradability of diethyl succinate was evaluated using several (Q)SAR models..

All the results indicate that the above substance is expected to be readily biodegradable.

 

Bioaccumulation

In accordance with REACH Regulation 1907/2006, Annex IX (9.3.2), Column 2, a study of bioaccumulation need not be conducted if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (based on a Log Kow <=3).

Transport and distribution

Adsorption / desorption

The Koc of diethyl succinate was estimated to be 21.2 L/Kg, using the EPA OPERA (Q)SAR model.

Henry's Law constant

The Henry’s Law Constant of diethyl succinate was determined to be HLC = 4.6E-6 atm•m3/mole, equivalent to 0.47 Pa•m3/mole, using the EPA OPERA (Q)SAR model.

Distribution modelling

Distribution in environmental compartments has been calculated using a Fugacity model, under the emission scenario of 1000 kg/h into each of air, water and soil compartments, according to Mackay, Level III. Distribution in various environmental compartments is estimated as: Air= 4.73%; Water= 34.2%; Soil= 61% and Sediment= 0.0929%.

The soil was then found to be the major target compartment.
