study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance has no ionic structure

Description of key information

The study does not need to be conducted. Butyl benzoate is an ester of benzoic acid. It is neither an acid or a base, it is an ester. Upon hydrolysis of the ester that is butyl benzoate, the hydrolysis products will be butanol (an alcohol) and benzoic acid (an organic acid). Benzoic acid has a pKa or acid dissociation constant of 4.2 (Source: however that is not the requested endpoint in this case.
Definition: An acid dissociation constant (Ka) is a quantitative measure of the strength of an acid in solution.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
