1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triamine, deammoniated is highly insoluble in water and its molar mass is assumed to be well above 500 Dalton. Therefore testing for biodegradation is not justified based on the scientific reasoning that 1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-triamine, deammoniated would not be bioavailable due to the absence of the necessary water solubility and due to its molar mass which would make it impossible to cross biological membranes. Because of a lack of water-solubility and the size of the polymer molecules, microorganisms are unable to transport the polymeric material directly into the cells where most biochemical processes take place. They must first excrete extracellular enzymes which depolymerize the polymers outside the cells. Therefore, the biodegradation of polymers is usually a surface erosion process. In most cases polymers will be resistant to biodegradation due to their size and hydrophobicity.
