Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Short-term toxicity to fish
In the 96-hour test according to OECD Guideline 203 on Danio rerio the read across substance Yellow 22 (CAS 90268 -98 -7) had no toxic effect on fish at aquatic saturation (i.e. limit test concentration). Accordingly, the 96 -h NOEC was determined to be 0.040 mg/L and the LOEC > 0.040 mg/L (based on total product), equivalent to 100 mg/L and > 100 mg/L nominal loading rate respectively.
Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates
No toxic effects of the test item were recorded up to the solubility limit of the test item in the test medium, which corresponds to 0.209 mg/L (geometric mean measured) and a nominal loading rate of 100 mg/L. Therefore, the 48 -hour EC50 was determined to be > 0.209 mg/L (geometric mean measured)..
Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
Since the test item is a dye with the capability to stain water, a study on algae was not performed (in accordance with REACH Regulation Annex XI, section 2).
Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae
Based on a WoE approach the test item is considered as non-toxic to Lemna gibba
- the test item is insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L) in the Lemna gibba test medium
- it is unlikely that the test item passes biological membrans due to its high molecular weight (>> 1000 Da)
- in a Lemna sp.growth inhibition test according to OECD Guideline 221 with a WAF, the 7-d EC50 and the NOEC of the read-across substance Yellow 22 (CAS 990268 -98 -7) were higher than the solubility level of the test item in the test medium, which corresponds to a mean measured concentration of 0.023 mg/L (EC50: >100 mg/L nominal).
Toxicity to microorganisms
In an Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test with the read across substance Yellow 22 (CAS 90268-98-7) according to OECD Guideline 209, no influence on the specific respiration rates up to 1000 mg/L (nominal) were shown. The 3-h EC50 was > 1000 mg/L (nominal) and the NOEC (3h) was 1000 mg/L (nominal).
