Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

2-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-6-[[3-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl]methyl]-4-methylphenyl acrylate (CAS 61167-58-6) is not expected to hydrolyze in water under environmental conditions. Hydrolytic degradation at the alkoxy-group is not expected since hydrolysis of carboxylic esters only occurs under acidic conditions and high temperature. Significant biodegradation by activated sludge microorganisms is not expected. No biodegradation was recorded in a standard biodegradation study according to “Biodegradation test of chemical substance by microorganisms” (Kanpogyo No. 5, Yakuhatsu No. 615 and 49 Kikyoku No. 392)” which is similar to OECD 301C. The study was terminated after 14 d since no biodegradation was recorded. Thus, the substance is not readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria. Due to the physico-chemical parameters the substance is expected to partition mainly to organic particles in soil and sediment as well as particulate matter in water (vapour pressure: 2.58E-007 Pa; water solubility: 0.123 µg/L at 20 °C; log Koc: > 5). The potential for adsorption will also limit the release of the substance to the environment since high adsorption to activated sludge will eliminate the substance significantly in sewage treatment plants.
The potential for bioaccumulation of the substance was assessed in a weight-of-evidence approach taking into account experimental data as well as reliable QSAR models. The available data show that the potential for bioaccumulation of the substance is low.
