Additional information - workers

1,3,2-Dioxathiolane, 2,2-dioxide is suspected of causing cancer based on the available data, including carcinogenic literature data on the substance and structurally similar substances, QSAR predictions (including structural alerts). Its has also been identified as a possible alkylating agent.

Due to the evidence of carcinogenic potential the substance should be used under rigorous risk management measures to minimize exposure to workers.

The available data was considered insufficient to derive DMEL so a qualitative assessment will be performed.

Additional information - General Population

The hazards of the substance will be the same as for workers for the general population i.e. carcinogenicity, corrosivity. However, there are no consumer uses of the substance so hazard assessment conclusions have not been considered as necessary for the general population.
