Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

By read-across from C16 TMAB to the target substance, the long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is conservatively estimated with a NOEC of 23 µg/L.

Additional information

Long-term toxicity data were obtained from two studies with aquatic invertebrates based on read across from hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride for which the long-term toxicity to Daphnia magna and the midge Chironomus riparius is reported, respectively. In general, studies show that the toxicity of C12-C18 mono alkyl quaternary ammonium compounds to aquatic organisms increases with the carbon chain length and therefore the study with C16 alkyl trimethylammonium bromide is considered to be the most representative for the toxicity of the target substance.
