Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting range of the 3-Ammonio-4-methoxyphenyl) (2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium sulphate was determined to be within  411.6 - 419.7 K (138.4 -146.5˚C)

Discolouring of the test substance was observed parallel to the melting process, which was interpreted as degradation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
138.4 °C

Additional information

The melting point of 3-Ammonio-4-methoxyphenyl)(2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium sulphate was determined following guidelines OECD 102 (Melting Point / Melting Range), EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature) and the GLP.

Melting point of the test substance was assessed by a capillary tube in a liquid bath apparatus, with silicon oil as liquid.

The dried test substance was filled into the capillary. The apparatus was heated to 398 K (125˚C). Then the capillary was placed into the apparatus with temperature rise adjusted to a maximum of 1 K/min.

During melting the test substance first showed a change of structure and colour (grey-brown melting crystals), then it slowly turned dark brown, beginning at the side of the capillary, which was interpreted as degradation. Degradation was observed parallel to the melting process

The melting range of the 3-Ammonio-4-methoxyphenyl)(2-hydroxyethyl) ammonium sulphate was determined to be within 411.6 - 419.7 K (138.4 -146.5˚C).
