Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the CLP Regulation (EC) n. 1272/2008, 2.14.4.1 section, for organic substances or mixtures the classification procedure for the oxidising solid class shall not apply if:

(a) the substance or mixture does not contain oxygen, fluorine or chlorine; or

(b) the substance or mixture contains oxygen, fluorine or chlorine and these elements are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen.

For inorganic substances or mixtures the classification procedure for this class shall not apply if they do not contain oxygen or halogen atoms.

The substance failed to satisfy the screening criteria reported in the CLP Regulation because it contains oxygen chemically bonded not only to carbon or hydrogen (i.e. sulphur-oxygen), therefore the oxygen balance has been calculated. A negative oxygen balance is an indication that substance contains less oxygen than is needed to cause, or contribute to the combustion of other materials, generally by yielding oxygen therefore can be considered generally stable.

Moreover, a study conducted on the Suimilar Substance 04 was considered in order to support the above consideration.

Based on the oxygen balance values, the known experience in the handling and use of substance and the experimental dat available, the substance is deemed not to be potentially oxidising.
