1). Heat sensitivity:

Assays using a tube with a hole of 6 mm diameter: For at least 190 seconds after the start of each assay, a small yellow flame was observed from the top of each tube. After a period of at least 200 seconds from the start of the assays, a yellow flame (height 0.5 m) was observed. During 40 -50 seconds, the test substance was expelled from the tubes and a black smoke was recorded. After 240 seconds, the yellow flame was reduced and no reaction remained up to the end. After the gas heater was turned off the liquified test substance was observed all around each tube.

Assays using a tube with a hole of 2 mm diameter:For at least 160 seconds after the start of each assay, a small yellow flame was observed from the top of each tube. After a period of at least 165 seconds, intense, tapered yellow flames (height 0.5 m-0.75 m) were succesively observed and the test substance was expelled from the tubes. A black smoke was recorded. After at least 215 seconds, a small yellow flame was still present but no reaction remained up to the end. The liquified test substance was observed all around each tube.

Result: Six negative assays were recorded with the test substance. There was no evidence of deformation or splitting of the steel tube.

2). Mechanical sensitivity - shock:

No reaction was observed i.e. no trace, smell or explosion was observed in any of the six assays.

3). Mechanical sensitivity - friction:

Black traces were observed on each porclein plate which are signs of a combustion. A complementary assay (no. 7) was performed which showed the appearance of a spark and black traces. The outcome of the test was that 2 positive assays (out of 6) were recorded. The results of the friction test are summarised in Table 1:

Conclusions:
The test substance is at the lower limit of the range which is considered to present a danger of explosion with respect to the operating conditions used.
Executive summary:

The study to determine the explosive properties of the test material was performed in accordance to EEC Method A14. The test material was found to be negative in a heat sensitivity and mechanical shock sensitivity studies. However, sparking was observed in two out of the six assays in the mechanical friction study.

The test substance is therefore considered to be at the lower limit of the range which is considered to present a danger of explosion with respect to the operating conditions used.
