Results

Determination of the Concentration by HPLC

By mean of HPLC, the concentrations of the two solutions were determined to be 0.9945 mg/L and 0.9984 mg/L, respectively, with a mean concentration of 0.9965 mg/L.

Measurement of the Surface Tension

The surface tension values of the two diluted aqueous solutions of the test item were determined.

The measurement was carried out at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C and a correction factor (Harkins & Jordan) was included. The age of the test solutions at the beginning of the measurement was 27.5 hours for the first test solution and 28.0 hours for the second test solution. The age of the test solution is defined as the period of time from the preparation of the solution to the recording of the surface tension value. The measured data are given in in the following table.

Mean (experiments A and B): σmean= 71.06 mN/m

Standard deviation: 0.035 mN/m

Relative standard deviation: 0.05 %

The mean value, multiplied by the calibration factor (F= 1.0144) results in:

σ = σmean· F = 72.1 mN/m

The surface tension of the aqueous solution of the test substance was therefore determined to be σ = 72.1 mN/m at 20 °C. The test item can be therefore considered as not surface active.

Description of key information

The surface tension of the aqueous solution (0.9965 mg/L) of the test substance was determined to be σ = 72.1 mN/m at 20 °C.

(OECD guideline 115, Harmonized ring method). The test item can be therefore considered as not surface active.
