classification and labelling
investigations were performed in order to investigate the toxicity of
1,2,3-Propanetriol, glycidyl ethers towards aquatic microorganisms,
and daphnids. The toxicity towards Daphnia magna was conducted
with an exposure time of 21 days (long-term test). The potential of
short-term toxicity to daphnids, as well as short- and long-term
toxicity towards fish were predicted with the scientifically accepted
QSAR tool EPIWIN (software ECOSAR v1.00 and v0.99g by US-EPA). For
chemical safety assessment (CSA), the experimental results are taken
more into account; however, the QSAR predictions support the
experimental results for the test substance.
toxicity experiment with the algae species Pseudokirchneriella
subcapitata (OECD Guideline 201; Liedtke, 2013) revealed an
ErC50(72h) > 120 mg/L, thus indicating that there is no acute hazard
potential towards this organisms. The long-term exposure to Daphnia
magna revealed a No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) of 8.3 mg/L
(OECD Guideline 211; Liedtke, 2013). As supporting information, the
predicted Chronic Values (ChVs, reveal the geometric mean of the LOEC
and NOEC) of the three trophic levels (fish, daphnids and algae)
indicates that there is no toxicity concern (Chemservice S.A., 2015c).
In a Manometric
Respirometry Test, conducted in accordance with OECD Guideline 301F the
test substance was found to be not readily biodegradable so that the
substance is considered as persistent in the environment (please
refer to PBT assessment).
However, 24 % degradation were attained within 55 days exposure period.
Furthermore, bioaccumulation is not expected, based on the predicted
Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) of 3.16 L/kg w.w. by BCFBAFv3.01
(Chemservice S.A., 2013).
