Calibration

The pressure readings and the calculated volume for the reference and sample cells are shown in the following table:

Determination  P1 (psig)   P2 (psig)   P3 (psig)   P4 (psig)  Reference cell volume (cm3)  Sample cell volume (cm3)
 1  14.243  6.530  17.313  8.579  90.856  149.056
 2  17.571  6.657  17.230  8.540

 90.944

 149.100
 3  14.925  6.793  17.063  8.458  91.024  149.165

Mean reference cell volume : 90.941 cm3 Mean sample cell volume : 149.107 cm3

As the reference cell volume and sample cell volume were within the defined tolerance (90.953 ± 1.0 cm3 and 149.225 ± 1.0 cm3 for the reference and sample cell volumes respectively) the gas comparison pycnometer was therefore considered acceptable for use.

Sample

The pressure readings, calculated volumes and density values obtained for the test item are shown in the following table:

Determnation  Test  P1(sample) (psig)  P2(sample) (psig)  Volume (cm3)  Density (kg/cm3)  Mean Density (kg/m3)
 1  A  18.535  7.906  26.844  1.21 x 103   1.21 x 103
   B  17.811  7.597  26.839   1.21 x 103
   C  17.227  7.343  26.696   1.22 x 103
 2  A  17.768  7.630  28.273   1.21 x 103   1.20 x 103
   B  18.607  7.999  28.504   1.20 x 103
   C  18028  7.719  28.474   1.20 x 103

Mean density : 1.21 x 103 kg/m3

Relative density : 1.21

Temperature : 20.0 ± 0.5 °C

Duplicate determinations were performed to ensure a reproducibility of less than ± 20 kg/m3 was obtained

Conclusions:
The density of the test item has been determined to be 1.21 x 103 kg/m3 at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C; relative density: 1.21 in a reliable GLP study according to OECD TG 109 using the gas comparison pycnometer method.

Executive summary:

The general physico-chemical properties of Formaldehyde, reaction products with aniline, 4,4'-methylenebis[phenol] have been determined.
