Five studies were available that evaluated the toxicity of EGHE to microorganisms.

Five studies have been included for toxicity to microorganisms exposed to ethylene glycol hexyl ether (EGHE). All five studies were rated a Klimisch score of 2 based upon accepatable guideline restrictions. A 1990 study conducted using OECD 209 guidelines was chosed as the key study and reported an EC20 of 750 mg/L. This result is supported by two additional studies that reported an EC20 of 750 mg/L and an IC50 of 770 mg/L. A fourth study provided an EC10 of 1215 mg/L, while a fifth study reported an EC20 of 12 mg/L. This lower value was determined from a short-term respiration test comparable to ISO8192 and was based on promotion of respiration rather than inhibition.
