Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
biodegradation in water: simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is highly insoluble in water
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is readily biodegradable
Justification for type of information:
According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex IX, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable or is highly insoluble in water. The substance has been determined to be readily biodegradable (i.e., 80% degradation in 28 d and meeting the 10-d window) and is insoluble in water (i.e., 0.08994 mg/L at 25˚C); therefore, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water is waived.

Description of key information

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex IX, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable or is highly insoluble in water.  The substance has been determined to be readily biodegradable (i.e., 80% degradation in 28 d and meeting the 10-d window) and is insoluble in water (i.e., 0.08994 mg/L at 25˚C); therefore, simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water is waived.

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Column 2 of Annex IX, sediment simulation testing does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable or if direct and indirect exposure of sediment is unlikely.  The substance has been determined to be readily biodegradable (i.e., 80% degradation in 28 d and meeting the 10-d window); therefore, sediment simulation testing is waived.
