Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Basically, the hydrolysis reaction of Sodium triacetoxyborohydrate can be described as follows(Gibble, 1979):

NaBH(O2CCH3)3+ 3 H2Oà2 CH3CO2H + Na(CO2)2H3+ B(OH)3+ H2

The resulting reaction products areAcetic acid, Sodium acetate, Boric acid and Hydrogen gas.

This outcome could be confirmed in a GLP study performed according to OECD guideline 111 where the hydrolysis of Sodium triacetoxyborohydrate in water was tested (Widmer, 2005). Upon contact with water Sodium triacetoxyborohydrate decomposes with a half-life of 38-85 seconds by liberating hydrogen and acetate as identified products.
