Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental results are available for L-methionine.

The toxic effect of D,L-methionine was assessed in a static growth inhibition test (2002-0518-DGO) with green algae Desmodesmus subspicatus according to OECD 201. The EC50 and NOEC value after 72 h was determined as >1000 mg/l D,L-methionine, demonstrating that even 1000 mg/l D,L-methionine has no toxic effect on aquatic algae.

Read-across of D,L-methionine study to L-methionine was used due to structural similarities and the physico-chemical similarities according to Reach regulation (Annex XI, 1.5). Further, L-methionine is present in a considerable amount in racemic methionine (approximatly 50%). Taking this into account it can be concluded that the EC50 and NOEC of L-methionine is > 500 mg/l as a worst case approach.
