Description of key information

There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

If there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule the study does not need to be conducted. Based on CLP criteria and screening procedure (appendix 6 of UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, 2008), neither the starting materials tartaric acid(s), ferric chloride and sodium hydroxide, nor the reaction products contain susceptible functions. Moreover, the substance as placed on the market contains a high proportion of water, 65% or 90 -92%.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the substance.

Therefore the acceptance procedure for Class 1 explosives shall not apply, and the submission substance is considered as not classified with regard to explosive properties.
