Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The key study indicates that L-glutamine is readily biodegradable.

The supporting studies also indicate that L-glutamine is readily biodegradable.

Additional information

In a GLP guideline study according to OECD 301 C L-glutamine showed to be readily biodegradable.

The GLP guideline study was considered the most reliable in comparison to the other available studies. Thus, it was chosen as the key study.

The experimental results of the supporting studies consistently indicate that L-glutamine is readily biodegradable.

One supporting study shows that L-glutamine is rapidly oxidized in activated sludge. After only 24 h already more than 30% of the Theoretical Oxygen Demand were achieved.

The other supporting study was considered to be less reliable, because the documentation was insufficient.
