Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Hydrolysis product 3-chloropropionic acid: the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipates when introduced in appropriate low concentrations

Hydrolysis product HCl: no data available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data on the toxicity of 3 -chloropropionyl chloride to microorganisms is available. However, the parent compound 3-chloropropionyl chloride (CAS 625-36-5) rapidly hydrolyses in contact with water and forms 3-chloropropionic acid (107-94-8) and HCL (CAS 7647 -01 -0). Therefore, the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms will be assessed based on the information available for the hydrolysis products 3-chloropropionic acid and HCl.

For the hydrolysis product 3 -chloropropionic acid microorganism toxicity data are available from a study conducted according to DIN 38412, part 8 (Trénel, 1982). In this study a 18 -h EC10 was determined to be 482 mg/L (nominal, Pseudomonas putida).

It can be concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipates when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

For the hydrolysis product hydrogen chloride no data on the toxicity to microorganisms are available.
