Description of key information

Based on the results of this study, Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) did not burn with a flame or smolder along 200 mm within 4 minutes, and therefore was not considered highly flammable.

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The purpose of this study was to determine the flammability of the test substance, Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT). The study was conducted as described in ABC protocol, "Determination of Flammability for Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT)", which was patterned after the Official Journal of the European Communities, Part A.I0, Methods for the Determination of Physico-Chemical Properties, Flammability (2). The study was conducted in compliance with the GLP standards ofthe OECD (1).

The test substance melted along a length of approximately 4 cm. At no time did the test substance burn with a flame, smolder, or propagate combustion. Therefore, because Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) did not burn or smolder for a distance of 200 mm within the 4-minute test period, no further testing of its flammability was required.

Based on the results of this study, Butyl Phosphorothioic Triamide (NBPT) did not burn with a flame or smolder along 200 mm within 4 minutes, and therefore was not considered highly flammable. There were no known circumstances that may have adversely affected the quality or integrity of the data.

In accordance with "General rules for adaptation of the standard testing regime set out in annexes VII to X" in Annex XI, in the Regualtion (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006, the study on pyrophoricity is waived. Based on consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use of the substance pyrophoricity is not considered a concern.

In accordance with "General rules for adaptation of the standard testing regime set out in annexes VII to X" in Annex XI, in the Regualtion (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006, the study of flammability on contact with water is waived. Based on consideration of the structure and experience in handling and use of the substance, flammability on contact with water is not considered a concern.
