Description of key information

This endpoint can be waived due to the measured log Kow <3.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

BCF (aquatic species):
13 dimensionless

Additional information

Although this endpoint can be waived experimental data are available, so are reported here. The reported results show that benzene has a low to moderate bioaccumulation potential when considering data for individual organs. The highest available BCF for whole fish were <10 for Leuciscus idus measured by Freitag et al. (1985) and 11 for Clupea harrengus measured by Eldridge and Echeverria (1978). These values are very similar to the BCF of 13 calculated based on the measured log Kow of 2.13 using the equation recommended in the Technical Guidance Document (Veith et al., 1979).
