In the investigation of self ignition in the Grewer-oven for the pure test item an endothermic effect could be observed at a temperature of approx. 280°C, which can be assigned to the melting of the test item. The test item flew out of the basket and no exothermal effect could be observed up to a maximum temperature of 400°C.

For the test item in mixture with Kieselguhr a first exothermal process was determined at a temperature of 250°C leading to a maximum temperature of 340°C leading to a maximum temperature of >500°C.

Conclusions:
The pure product indicated an endothermic effect at a temperature of approximately 280°C at which point the test substance melted. The test item flew out of the basket and no self ignition could be observed up to a maximum temperature of 400°C. It can therefore be concluded that for this test item no self ignition temperature was found up to the melting of the test item.

According to the EU method, A.16., the temperature of the oven at which the temperature of the test item reaches 400°C by self heating is regarded as the self-ignition temperature.
