Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The cloud point technique was used to determine the solubility of the test substance in octanol. The equation used to calculate the partition coefficient was that found in OECD Test No. 107 using the measured value in this study for solubility in octanol and the measured value in for solubility in water.
GLP compliance:
yes
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water

Results and discussion

Partition coefficient
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
0.3
Temp.:
26 °C
pH:
>= 4 - <= 9
Details on results:
pH was not reported, but is assumed to be at the environmentally relevant range of pH 4-9, as defined in OECD 111, since there are no functional groups present on the compounds in the mixture that would have a significant impact on the pH. Solubility of the test substance in water and n-octanol was 2.1 g/L and 4.2 g/L, respectively, at 26°C.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Partition Coefficient n-Octanol/Water (26°C) (Log Pow) = 0.3
Executive summary:

Guidance on regulatory compliant Kow determination for surfactants indicates none of the experimental methods is well suited for determining Kow of surface active chemicals. One suggested approach is the comparison of measured solubilities in octanol and water.

Solubility in both water and n-octanol were measured. Solubility of the test substance in water and n-octanol was 2.1 g/L and 4.2 g/L, respectively, at 26°C. Partition Coefficient n-Octanol/Water (26°C) (Log Pow) = 0.3
