DNA incubated with MMS exhibited an apparently smaller increase in relative absorbance at 259 nm with a gradual increase of temperature than native DNA. The MMS-induced decrease in an absorbance gain was concentration dependent. Denaturation of DNA incubated with TOX without metabolic activation ran similarly to that of control DNA and no difference in hyperchromicity was observed. The melting of DNA incubated with TOX in the presence of S9-mix is characterized by a considerably lowered hyperchromicity as compared to negative control.
