Description of key information

Based on the use pattern for this substance that it is readily biodegradable, direct and indirect exposure of soil is unlikely. The equilibrium partitioning method is considered adequate to estimate the toxicity to soil organisms using the existing aquatic toxicity hazard data. This method is applicable for substances where the toxicity in soils relates to the freely dissolved concentration in pore water, which is the case here, as this substance has low adsorptive potential. Based on this and the low predicted exposures in soil and the fact that good data is available for the aquatic compartment, it is assessed that no toxicity testing to soil organisms are needed. TMPTA is not expected to persist and/or adsorb to the soil matrix. Consequently, no experimental studies are required. For the risk assessment, PNEC is calculated by the Equilibrium Partitioning Method (EPM).
