Materials and methods

Type of study / information:
Using IGEC biotest (inhibition of growth of Escherichia coli) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition tests to evalutate the toxicity of DMA (and other dithiocarbamates) by in vitro application.

The IGEC biotest was used to determine the minimal effective concentration (MEC), median effective concentration (EC50), and no observed effect concentration (NOEC). Additionally, the AChE inhibition test was carried out for all tested substances.

Results and discussion

IGEC biotest

For dimethylamine the following results were reported:

MEC = 10 µg/mL

EC50 = 10.085 µg/mL

NOEC = 3779 µg/mL

Taking this results into account dimethylamine was the least toxic amine analyzed in this study.

Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition Test

The results which were obtained in this study indicate a generalized absence of AChE inhibition for dimethylamine and all other tested dithiocarbamates.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Dimethylamine showed no toxicity effects using the IGEC biotest and no inhibition properties on the enzyme acetylcholinesterase.
Executive summary:

Taking the results of the IGEC biotest into account dimethylamine was the least toxic amine which was analyzed in this study. Additionally no inhibition on the enzyme acetylcholinesterase was indicated.
