Endpoint:
dissociation constant
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
25 June 2012 to 30 January 2013
Reliability:
3 (not reliable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
significant methodological deficiencies
Remarks:
The test was conducted on tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate which has low solubility. Titration was used as the method to determine the dissociation constant. This method is inappropriate for low solubility substances. Furthermore the test concentration used was several times above the limit of solubility. Purity of the substance is unknown. Based on the use of an inaporpriate method and the uncertainty pertaining the complete solubilization of the test substance within the test system, as well as possible impurities of the substance, the study is not reliable.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The test substance does not dissociate.
Executive summary:

An OECD 112 test was conducted to determine the dissociation constant of tris(2 -ethylhexyl)phosphate.

The titration method was used, using NaOH and HCl as the titrant, and the substance (~4 g) was placed in 1000 mL of ultrapure water to lead to a solution of tris(2 -ethylhexyl)phosphate of 0.01 mol/L.

The test substance did not dissociate during this test.
