Description of key information

Mean recoveries of dimethyl sulfide in samples following five days were 96.2, 95.8 and 97.0% of Day 0 in the pH 4, 7 and 9 buffer solutions, respectively. No significant degradation (<10%) of dimethyl sulfide was observed in any of the samples analyzed. The hydrolytic half-life of dimethyl sulfide under acidic (pH4), neutral (pH7) and alkaline (pH9) conditions was therefore estimated at greater than one year.

Additional information

Chafey (2004) is a GLP-compliant study following OECD guideline 111. The study is considered reliable and suitable for use. The results show that dimethyl sulphide is hydrolytically stable.
