The substance was registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a pesticide. Registration # 1016-4, by the Union Carbide Corporation, UCC Linde Division, 200 Cottontail Lane, Somerset, NJ 08875. Active ingredient: 2 -ethyl-1,3 -hexanediol, 99.9999%. Status: transferred (to another company).

Prior to transfer, substance was reregistered at the U.S. EPA, 1981, EPA Report No. 540/RS-81-005. Office of Pesticides and Toxic Substances (now Office of Pesticide Products (OPP), Washington, DC.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
A risk assessment for EHD has been undertaken by the US EPA, resulting in approval of the substance as a dermally-applied insect repellent by consumers. The pesticide registration has since been withdrawn.
