Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The effect of the test material on the growth of Desmodesmus subspicatus gave an EC50 values of greater than 100 mg/L. Correspondingly, the No Observed Effect Concentration was 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In the algal growth inhibition test with Desmodesmus subspicatus (Report No. 0732/0162), the effects of the test item (OG or 2 -ethyl-1,3 -hexanediol) were determined according to OECD 201 (2006) and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 Method C.3 2008 from 4 September 2009 to 25 October 2009 at Harlan Laboratories Ltd, Shardlow Business Park, Shardlow Derbyshire, DE72 2GD UK.

Following a preliminary range finding test, Desmodesmus subspicatus was exposed to an aqeuous solution of the test material at a concentration of 100 mg/L (six replicate flasks) for 72 hours, under constant illumination and shaking at a temperature of 24 ± 1°C. Samples of the algal

populations were removed daily and cell concentrations determined for each control and treatment group, using a Coulter Multisizer Particle Counter. Exposures of Desmodesmus subspicatus to the test material gave EC50 values of greater than 100 mg/L and correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was 100 mg/L.
