Additional information

Depending on the chain-length of the dicarboxylic acid/alcohols, the main compartment for environmental distribution differs for some members of the PFAE linear category. Relatively well water soluble members of the category exhibit calculated log Kow values < 5 / Koc < 3 (i.e. Diisopropyl adipate CAS 6938 -94 -9, Dibutyl adipate CAS 105 -99 -7 and to a lesser extend Diisopropyl sebacate CAS 7491 -02 -3). These substances are expected to distribute in the aquatic, sediment and soil compartment. In contrast, all other members of the category are substances with log Kow values > 5 (log Koc > 3) and will mainly distribute into soil and sediment exclusively. However, due to their ready biodegradability, members of the PFAE category will not be persistent in the environment.
