4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one is an organic liquid, which melts at -44°C and boils at 167.9°C at an atmospheric pressure of 1013 hPa. It is less dense than water with a density of 0.9 g/cm3at 20°C. 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one has a vapor pressure of 1.32 hPa at 20°C. 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one was reported to be miscible with water with a predicted n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow) value of -0.09. Depending on its acetone content, 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one is either non-classifiable or classified as “flammable” with a flash point ranging from 42 to 63°C. 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one does not possess oxidizing or explosive properties and has a viscosity of 2.798 mPa. s at 25°C.
