Description of key information

The flash point of (Z)-octadec-9-enol is expected to be >100°C at 1013 hPa

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There is no measured flash point for the submission substance. However, flash point has been assessed based on available data for hexadecan-1 -ol and octadecan-1 -ol. Hexadecan-1-ol and Octadecan-1-ol have measured flash point values of 149°C at 1013 hPa and 195°C at 1013 hPa respectively with the use of a closed-cup method in accordance with ASTM D-93 test method. The results are considered to be reliable and are used as weight of evidence that the flash point of the submission substance is expected to be >100°C at 1013 hPa.

A flash point of >100°C and boiling point of 333°C indicate that (Z)-octadec-9-enol should not be classified as a flammable liquid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:

The flash point of Category substances follow a predictable trend of increasing flash point temperature with increasing chain length together with increasing boiling point and decreasing vapour pressure.
