Description of key information

The distribution model submitted with this application indicates that because of the speed of volatilisation 1,1,1-trichloroethane is unlikely to be present in soil and sediments. Risk evaluation by several authors conclude that the terrestrial compartment can be ignored. The EuroChlor review conducted for the European Commission surveyed existing literature sources and gives a value for the Koc of 2.2.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
2.2

Additional information

The EuroChlor review conducted at the request of the European Commission to address concerns relating to chemical pollution of North Sea provides the following useful values in relation to soil absorption/desorption.

Sediment - water partition coefficient: 7.09

Koc: 2.2

Soil - water partition coefficient - 3.55
