Description of key information

substance decomposes before boiling >370⁰C, EU Method A.2, McLean 2012

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The boiling point of the substance was determined by differential scanning calorimetry according to EU Method A.2. A review of the thermograms that start at 50⁰C did not detect any endothermic events occurring between the 217⁰C melting point and the high temperature event starting at >370⁰C. Therefore it was concluded that the compound was decomposing before it boils, as determined by the presence of visible smoke and a black char-like residue observed on the sample vessel lid, a boiling point temperature could not be calculated. The extrapolated onset temperature, 409.17 ºC, is the temperature at which decomposition occurs.
