Description of key information

The 72h ECb50 for N-(n-octyl)-2-pyrrolidinone to green algae was 16.6 mg/L and the NOEC was 3.7 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
16.6 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
3.7 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of N-(n-octyl)-2-pyrrolidinone was studied in a 72h static test according to OECD 201. The 72h ECb50 for N-(n-octyl)-2-pyrrolidinone to green algae was 16.6 mg/L and the NOEC was 3.7 mg/L. The study was found to be reliable and therefore these values are taken as the endpoints.

The EC50 values are both above the values required for classification, and so N-(n-octyl)-2 -pyrroldinone is not classified as toxic to aquatic organisms.
