Description of key information
The effects of Santicizer 278 on soil nitrogen transformation by microorganisms were determined in a 28-day soil nitrogen transformation study completed in accordance with OECD TG 216. An estimated EC50 (nitrogen transformation inhibition) of 857.27 mg/kg dw, and NOEC (nitrogen transformation inhibition) of 100 mg/kg dw were determined for Santicizer 278.
A study was performed to determine the effects of Santicizer 278 on the reproduction and growth of the earthworm, Eisenia fetida. The method followed in this study was that described in OECD Guideline for the Testing of Chemicals No.222 (2016), Earthworm Reproduction Test (Eisenia fetida/Eisenia andrei), adopted 29 July 2016. There were no significant effects on the mortality or bodyweight of adult worms or the number of juveniles produced at any dose rate. The NOEC for adult mortality (28 days), adult bodyweights (28 days) and reproduction (number of juveniles at 56 days) was 1000 mg/kg dry soil, which was the highest dose tested.
A study was conducted to determine the phytotoxic effects of the test item, Santicizer 278, on seedling emergence and growth of six non-target plant species, consisting of four dicotyledons (cabbage, carrot, lettuce and tomato) and two monocotyledons (onion and ryegrass), during early critical stages in their development. The NOEC for germination and survival was 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight the highest dose tested. The NOEC values for effects on dry weight compared against the solvent control were 37.04 mg a.i./kg dry soil for tomato, and 1000 mg a.i./kg dry soil for cabbage, carrot, lettuce, onion and ryegrass.
