Description of key information

The rate constant for the reaction of propane-2-thiol with OH radicals is 40.7 +/- 3.7 to 42.2 +/- 7.1 E-12 cm3 molecule-1 s-1. Using an equation of half-life = Ln2 / (OH concentration * rate constant * 60 * 60 * daylight length), and an OH concentration of 1.56 E6 and a daylight length of 12 hours, this gives an atmospheric half-life of 0.24 to 0.25 days.

Additional information

The results have been compiled from three studies. Atkinson (1989) is a review paper, which includes and extends previous review articles by the author (inlcuding Atkinson, 1987) and provides some general information about the experimental methods and conditions. Both Barnes papers (1986 and 1987) are non-GLP, non-guideline studies, with sound scientific principles, analytical monitoring and a control groups.
