Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Short-term toxicity to fish

BASF AG, 1998, 17F0206/965059, OECD 203, GLP, static, Danio rerio, 96 h LC50 = 63.03 mg/L (based on analytically verified nominal concentrations).

Based on this result 1,2-dimethylimidazole is considered to be acutely harmful to fish.

Long-term toxicity to fish

A study on the long-term toxicity to fish was waived.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

BASF AG, 1997, 96/0276/50/11, EU method C.2, GLP, static, Daphnia magna, EC50 > 100 mg/L (based on measured concentration).

Based on this result 1,2-dimethylimidazole is considered with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

BASF SE, 2022, QSAR Toolbox v4.5, trend analysis, substance within the applicability domain, Daphnia magna,  21 d NOEC = 21.3 mg/L.

Based on this result no long-term effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

BASF SE, 2013, 60E0074/12X207, OECD 201, GLP, Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata, analytically verified values, ErC10 = 19.73 mg/L, Er50 = 58.1 mg/L.

Based on this result, 1,2-dimethylimidazole is considered to be harmful to aquatic algae and long-term effects are not expected.

Toxicity to microorganisms

BASF SE, 2013, 08G0074/12G233, OECD 209, GLP, inoculum = domestic non-adapted activated sludge, EC10 = 3 mg/L, EC50 = 64 mg/L

Based on this result, and depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.
