Chemical structure
Reference substance name:
[(1H-1,2,3-benzotriazol-1-yloxy)(dimethylamino)methylidene]dimethylazanium; tetrafluoroboranuide
Cas Number:
125700-67-6
Molecular formula:
C11H16BF4N5O
IUPAC Name:
[(1H-1,2,3-benzotriazol-1-yloxy)(dimethylamino)methylidene]dimethylazanium; tetrafluoroboranuide
Details on test material:
purity: 99.4%
in study reported: 1H-Benzotriazol-1-yl-1,1,3,3,-tetramethyluronium tetrafluoroborate (TBTU),
the reported name of the test substance does not belong to the CAS-number 125700-67-6, the correct CAS name is 1H-Benzotriazolium, 1-[bis(dimethylamino)methylene]-, 3-oxide, tetrafluoroborate(1-))
The substance used in this study is identical to the substance for registration, because of the same manufacturing process by the same company.

TBTU was tested at BAM according to the method A.14 EU directive 92/69/EEC. The test was positive with 2 mm as the limiting diameter. The tube was not fragmented completely in three pieces. Two pieces remained connected over a small strip and the pieces were twisted. Such a fragmention type should be evaluated as "E" (explosion).

TBTU was not sensitive to drop-weight impact or friction.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
TBTU has to be classified as explosive.
