PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Crotonic acid - Boundary Composition
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
Crotonic acid - Boundary Composition
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Toxicity Assessment:

Crotonic acid is not classified or likely to be classified as carcinogenic (cat. 1A or 1B), germ cell mutagenic (cat. 1A or 1B) or toxic to reproduction (cat. 1A,1B or 2) or STOT RE 1, or STOT RE 2 according to CLP.The EC50 values obtained in acute aquatic toxicity tests were above 0.1 mg/L. These data lead to the conclusion, that Crotonic acid does not fulfil the T criterion.

Persistence and Bioaccumulation Assessment:

A potential for bioaccumulation of Crotonic acid is not expected due to the log Pow of 0.85 (no B). Crotonic acid is readily biodegradable. This indicates that the substance is not persistent (no P).

Regarding all available data on biotic and abiotic degradation, bioaccumulation and toxicity it can be stated that Crotonic acid does neither fulfil the PBT nor the vPvB criteria.
